Tasting Notes - Waipara Hills Pinot Noir 2006

When I tasted the 2003 about 2 years ago I thought the wine heralded a new breed of sub $25 pinot that would seriously challenge (and probably beat) any value offering from Australia. Sadly this wine is not in the same class but it is serviceable.

Light clear raspberry in colour, the aromas are initially quite enticing; lightly perfumed red berries and raspberry. Flavours never really develop, some more lightly fruited berries but hard to get a read on the definition. Very low or nil oak inpact, and acids are medium at best. Perhaps dilutive, or perhaps very young. Either way not what the doctor ordered at the price point.
