Tasting Notes - Mount Burrumboot Estate Gamay 2005
Mmm a Gamay from Heathcote? - that's an interesting prospect. This wine doesn't promise to be like a Beaujolais and it certainly isn't! It's a dark purple red with some translucency. The nose is not the most enticing with a herbaceous edge with some chemical or artificial aromas coming through. However the palate is better, medium in body with plenty of flavour; redcurrant fruit and a touch of strawberry leaf. Because so little is made by the winery(there is very little made in Australia full stop) it is a bit on the pricey side, around $35 but it is worth a look at if you want to taste something a bit off the wall.
