Tasting Notes - Five Sons Estate Chardonnay 2005

The minute I opened this wine I knew what it had in store for me. I could smell the oak from 20 paces away. I know there is still a market for plenty of oak influence in wine but it just isn't my taste. I seem to be particularly sensitive to it. I tried hard to distinguish other aromas but I pretty much got, oak, oak, oak. I coped a bit better with the palate, medium weight, some rich figs and dried apricot fruit but loaded with oak which made for an almost spicy, seasoned finish. A bit unbalanced for me.
