Tasting Notes - Neagles Rock 'Misery' Grenache Shiraz 2005
I really wanted to give this wine the 'reco' tag but it doesn't quite get there. Ultra ripe nose with plums and pruny notes, the latter a dead give-away for grenache. Quite fresh but there's no doubt a fair whack of heat lurks in the palate. Fruit weight in the palate makes for a very smooth drink but unfortunately some prickly ABV heat jumps out very early and doesn't really give the fruit a chance. The fruit just can't penetrate, at least to my tastes. I had the 2004 recently and it was very good - perhaps this one will settle down?
