Tasting Notes - Woongarra Park Shiraz 2004

The vineyard / winery is located in Narre Warren so technically this is a Gippsland wine but in reality shares more with the climate of the nearby Yarra Valley.

Medium bodied style and clearly appropriate for the region and climate. Aromas are distinctive with plenty of white pepper, red berries and what I read to be some charry oak. The pepper flows through the flavours, together with some lively minerally acids, mild gamey notes, and some underlying spice. Not a bad coolish climate take on the shiraz grape but doesn't quite grab me. Will be interesting to see the retail price.
