Tasting Notes - Rex Hill Pinot Noir 2005 (Recommended)

Region: Willamette
Sub-Region: Willamette Valley

I've only had a small handful of Oregon pinots and they have all been cracking wines. This 'entry' level pinot from Rex Hill is no acception. Deep ruby coloured, very clean and clear. Aromas are very attractive; cherries with a pongy tangy note (not crazy over the top sour style), heaps of depth and lift. Excellent.

Flavours don't let me down. Sour, frim fruits, a clear bitter edge, very linear, keeps the wine tight and focussed. A fraction hot on the finish but this doesn't detract at all. This wine may well provide a better option for new world pinot than the current crop of $50-somethings from Central Otago and the cheaper end of Martinborough.
