Tasting Notes - Ashton Hills Oblique Cabernet Blend 1998 (Recommended)

Once again Stephen George proves he is at the top of the tree as far as South Australian wine makers are concerned. We've tried this particular vintage a few times over the past 4 years and it's still holding very well. Colour continues to gradually fade to a dull 'old' blood red. Nose shows maturity; pongy red fruits that are ever so slightly baked and porty. Good lift. Palate shows these fruit notes but to a less obvious degree. Rather the tastes are structurally, tight zingy acid, some astringency, medium strength tannin. This wine has a few years left yet but the fruit will fade over the next 2.
